Where to Find U-Pick Apples and Berries Near Salem This October
TL;DR
Where can you pick fruit or buy fresh produce at farm stands around Salem-Keizer this October? Try Beilke Family Farm in Brooks and Greens Bridge Gardens in Jefferson for u-pick apples, Fordyce Farm in Salem for late-season berries, or E.Z.
- Apple season just starting; berry season narrowing by September.
- Call or check Facebook before driving; crops and hours change weekly.
Looking for a farm stand or u-pick spot around Salem-Keizer this September? Here's the short answer: apple season is just getting going at a couple of Marion County orchards, one Salem berry farm is still picking into fall, and a few year-round markets have fresh local produce without any picking required. Below is where things actually stand this month, plus a reminder I'll repeat more than once: call or check social media before you load up the kids and drive out.
This is intentionally a narrow list. I'm not folding in pumpkin patches or corn mazes here. Those are great, and I've got seasonal family activities happening this month covered elsewhere on the site. This post is just about what's ripe, pickable, or sitting at a farm stand right now.
What's Actually Ripe Around Salem-Keizer This September
September is a transition month for Willamette Valley farms. Strawberries and most summer berries have mostly wrapped up, but a handful of later-ripening berries hang on into fall, and apples are starting to come on strong. Here's the honest breakdown:
- Apples: ramping up, generally ready by late August and into fall at the orchards below
- Late berries: narrowing window, worth calling ahead before you drive out
- Fresh produce at farm markets: available without the picking commitment, good option if you just want local food without a field visit
Keep in mind that u-pick availability shifts week to week with weather and ripening. A farm that had plenty of fruit last weekend can be picked clean by this weekend, especially after a warm stretch. That's not a reason to skip the drive, it's just a reason to call first.
U-Pick Apple Orchards Near Keizer and Salem
If you want to actually fill a bag with apples this month, these are the two confirmed u-pick orchards in Marion County worth the drive.
Beilke Family Farm, Brooks
Beilke Family Farm grows u-pick apples, tomatoes, and pumpkins, and apples are typically ready by late August. The stand is open Monday through Saturday, 8am to 6pm, and Sunday, 12pm to 6pm, through late November, according to PickYourOwn.org's Salem-area listing. Brooks is a short drive north of Salem, easy enough for a morning outing.
Greens Bridge Gardens, Jefferson
Greens Bridge Gardens lists u-pick apples alongside blackberries, boysenberries, raspberries, and other produce. They're open daily, 9am to 6pm, through Thanksgiving, per the same PickYourOwn.org listing. Jefferson is a bit further out than Brooks, but if you're combining apples with a longer drive loop through the valley, it's worth considering.
Both of these are listed as currently operating, but hours at any u-pick farm can change on short notice depending on weather, staffing, or how quickly a crop is going. I'd call ahead or check their Facebook page the morning you plan to go, especially on a weekend when you're more likely to run into other families doing the same thing.
Late-Season Berries Still Worth the Drive
Most berry season wrapped up by late summer, but there's one Salem-area farm still picking into fall.
Fordyce Farm, Salem
Fordyce Farm, at 7023 Sunnyview Road NE in Salem, offers u-pick strawberries, black currants, gooseberries, blueberries, raspberries, and kotataberries. According to PickYourOwn.org, they're open from mid-May through the end of October, which puts September squarely in their season. Keep in mind berry availability this late in the year depends heavily on what's left after a full summer of picking, so this is exactly the kind of place where a quick call before you go saves a wasted trip.
If berries are the main draw for your family, this is a good place to start, but I'd set expectations with your kids that it's late in the season. Don't be surprised if certain varieties are picked over by the time you get there.
Farm Stands for Fresh Produce (No Picking Required)

Not every family wants to spend an afternoon bent over in a field, and that's completely fair. If you just want fresh, local produce without the u-pick commitment, there's a solid option right in Salem.
E.Z. Orchards Farm Market, Salem
E.Z. Orchards Farm Market, at 5504 Hazelgreen Rd NE in Salem, is a year-round market, so it's not a seasonal pop-up you have to time perfectly. Their seasonal shortcake stand runs May through September, and the market itself is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm, and Saturday, 9am to 5pm, per Travel Salem's listing. If you've never tried their strawberry shortcake tradition, I actually wrote about it separately, you can read more about other local orchards and u-pick traditions in the area for the full story on that one.
If you'd rather shop a rotating mix of local growers in one stop instead of driving farm to farm, the local farmers market for fresh produce year-round is also worth checking out this month.
A Note on Two Frequently Mentioned Keizer-Area Stands
Jones Farm Produce on River Road and Nanneman Farms Fruit Stand on Silverton Road NE both come up often in Keizer-area farm searches, and I wanted to include them here. Honestly, though, I couldn't verify current 2026 hours or open status for either one. The most recent confirmed information I found for both dates back to a 2023 local news feature, and I didn't want to republish stale hours as if they were current. As of this writing (October 2, 2026), I'd call ahead or check each farm's social media directly before planning a visit around either one. If you've been recently and know they're open, that's genuinely useful information, but I'd rather flag the gap than guess.
Before You Go: Hours, Payment, and a Few Practical Notes
A few things worth keeping in mind no matter which farm you choose:
- Call or check Facebook first. U-pick fields change daily depending on weather and how many people picked the day before.
- Bring cash. Most smaller farm stands accept cash and check, and some take cards, but I wouldn't count on card-only convenience at every stop.
- Bring your own containers or ask what's provided. Some farms supply buckets or bags, others expect you to bring your own.
- Go earlier in the day if you can. Fields tend to be more thoroughly picked by afternoon, and it's more comfortable for kids before it warms up.
- Double-check hours against the farm's own page, not a directory. Directory sites are a good place to start, but hours and crop availability can shift within a single season.
Pair It With Nearby Parks to Make a Full Family Outing
If you're already driving out toward Brooks or Jefferson, it's worth building in a stop at a park or two so the day doesn't feel like just an errand. I've put together a list of nearby parks to extend your outing that work well for letting kids run around after a morning of picking. And if you're looking for more ideas to round out a weekend with your kids beyond farm visits, I've got a guide to family-friendly activities paired with farm visits that still applies well into fall.
There's something I genuinely enjoy about September around here. The pace slows down a little after a busy summer, the apples start showing up, and you can still get an afternoon outside without needing a jacket yet. You don't have to plan a huge day trip to get it, either. Sometimes it really is: drive to Brooks, fill a bag with apples, stop at a park on the way home, call it a good Saturday.
